Strive is a non-profit organization dedicated to character-driven leadership development. With a focus on high school and collegiate athletes and their coaches, Strive sharpens teams’ power and impact by teaching winning leadership and culture-building strategies that extend into life.

Strive offers a research-based, customizable curriculum that begins with self-knowledge, moves into culture creation, and ultimately instills the habit of rigorous leadership practice in its program participants. Through a robust scholarship program, Strive leads the way in developing character leaders in underserved communities. Strive is based in Wilmington, DE, and serves schools and communities across the U.S.

 

Job Description:

Development Intern

Our summer interns join the full-time staff as integral members of the team that manage our largest fundraising campaign of the year and help run all of our summer programs. The summer is our busy season; the pace is fast, the deadlines short, and the demands often stressful.

 

Specifically, you will work with the Director of Development to:

  • Assist with the Summer Scholarship Campaign

    • Prepare weekly student profiles

    • Send thank you follow-ups

    • Draft, edit, send email blasts

  • Point person on “in kind donation” drives

    • Equipment

    • Snacks

    • Classroom materials

  • Summer Scholarship Campaign partner management

    • Prepare and execute surveys with scholarship student-athletes

    • Design and compile packet for scholarship partners  

  • Assist in promoting and acquiring sponsorships

    • Solicit potential corporate sponsors by phone or in-person meetings

  • Design and prepare materials for Sports Challenge Visitors’ Day

    • Profile of the 2019 Sports Challenge class

    • Profiles of student-athletes

    • Examples of opportunities for further investment

      • Multi-Year pledges

      • The 2019 Annual Giving Campaign

      • Our Leadership Workshops and other events

      • Letter/certificate to acknowledge official sponsor /naming of scholarship

      • Photos/ materials to take back and share and display at their place of work

  • Assist in preparation for Development presentation during Staff training

    • Information gathering

    • Visual preparation

    • Delivery

  • Design, Prepare and Implement Thank You Follow-Up

    • Identify student-athletes to match with individual donors

    • Take photos and videos

    • Make calls as needed

  • Serve as administrative support to full time staff with planning and execution of Sports Challenge as needed

Qualifications:

We seek to hire individuals who are passionate about leadership and the power of athletics as a source of change and good in a community.

Students working toward a degree in Communications, Marketing, Media, Public Relations, Social Work, as well as liberal arts degrees are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for a creative mind with a background in art, photography, and videography who is looking to apply their skills to a meaningful cause. Preference will be given to rising juniors and seniors in college and recent graduates.

Work Calendar:

Dates of Contract (flexible): Monday, May 20th, 2019 - Friday, August 2nd, 2019

Sports Challenge Staff Training: Monday, June 24th, 2019 - Wednesday, June 26th, 2019   

Sports Challenge Program Dates: Thursday, June 27th, 2019 - Friday, July 5th, 2019

During Sports Challenge Staff Training & Program, you will be expected to stay on campus at Haverford College and work weekends.

Aside from these dates, you will be expected to work Monday thru Friday at Strive’s office at 1007 N Orange St., Wilmington, DE.

Send resume, cover letter and a reference (we request a character reference from a coach, professor or job supervisor -- please include their name, relationship, phone number and email) to krista@striveleadership.org no later than April 7th, 2019.  This position will be filled on a rolling basis and may be filled before this deadline. An offer to interview will be extended to qualified candidates.   

Interns will earn a modest stipend based on a 40-hour work week.   

Interns are required to use their personal laptop and other tools as applicable for work with Strive. You will also be required to secure your own lodging during the time that we work at our headquarters in Wilmington, DE. Your housing and meals will be covered when we are on-site for Sports Challenge (Monday, June 24 - Friday, July 5 at Haverford College).

Interns will be required to obtain the following: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
